PROMPTuesdays

Today’s PROMPTuesday is simple in pronouncement, but perhaps not in execution:

What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever had to do?

Include the link to your answer in the comments or feel free to leave your submission here, also in the comments section.

Meanwhile…to bone up on PROMPTuesdays, read a bit about it here.

My first thought was to say goodbye to my dad, like you know, forever, but then I realized that that was more painful and emotional but not necessarily hard because it was time for him to go. The hardest things have been breastfeeding (pushing through the pain that last several weeks) and quitting smoking. Both of which I extremely glad I did.

Removing my brother from my life. He’s a toxic person who only spews hate and ill will. Even so, he’s my brother. I tried and I tried for years. Years. Finally, after a particularly hurtful exchange with him, I decided I was finished with him. It’s been two years and I have no regrets. Probably the giving up on the hope that we’d ever have a friendly sibling relationship was harder than actually cutting him out of my life.

I gave this some thought and honestly, it’s a toss up between two life changing events though 180 degrees from one another. First, a final bedside visit lasting 2 1/2 days with my best friend who died at 39 years old was my hardest emotional thing I’ve gone through. A mixture of what I will never forget and things I am blessed to have experienced. Regardless, horribly hard.

On the other 180 of “hardness”, birthing my son (my second and last child and my only boy) was the other toughest thing I’ve experienced though with a wonderful ending. 36 hours of labor, 3 hours of pushing with a doctor trying to talk me into a C-section (been there done that), I dove deep and sucked it up and ended up with a healthy, serene baby boy. Yes, it took 10 painful weeks for me to recover but all is good now and worth it all.

Visited Del Mar’s shops, businesses, restaurants and bars for the Village’s annual Taste and Sip with closest pals. Highlights: learning about Mezcal at @enfuegocantina, sampling new @lalospirits tequila, catching the sunset at @monarchdelmar, amazing ceviche at @coya_peruvian_secret, and the most delicious gluten-free birthday cake from @shanjo! Recommend this for next year - was the best best most good time.
