Are We All Playing the Blogging Game?

*******************   I’ve often commented that I’ve been blogging since 2001. And I don’t mean it as a brag, although I also birthed both my children naturally while pushing a snow blower in a blizzard uphill both ways on crutches. Instead, I say it because it’s absolutely amazing that I don’t have a book…Continue Reading

PROMPTuesday #123: Like Sangria for Paella

Just yesterday, as I was straightening my ill-used and under-utilized cookbook pile, a piece of parchment fell to the floor. I couldn’t tell which book it’d shaken loose from, and I didn’t recognize the script, the recipe, or the name written on it. I hadn’t bought a cookbook in many moons, and as far as…Continue Reading

Healthy Lunch Ideas for Your Kids & More (With a Giveaway)

Once upon a time I followed up on my posts. Those times were halcyon days of watching Oprah at 4 and exercising at reasonable hours instead of at NEVER:THIRTY, which is the only open time slot I got these days. Those times were filled with not going crazy in the head, and having clean laundry…Continue Reading

The Full Moon Again

Last night I was driving to yet another thing when I glimpsed the full moon hanging in front of me, beckoning me to look outside my head for just one minute, just one lousy minute. I’ve been too inside lately. Too much with my thoughts and my yearnings and damn old worries. It’s paralyzing you…Continue Reading

PROMPTuesday #122: It’s Memoir-ex

Here’s the thing. I feel like reading. Of course, I have book club this coming Wednesday and would do well to actually read the book if it would COME ALREADY, Ama-damn-zon. But meanwhile, why don’t you read this post and then share a story from your past, or your family’s past or a tale handed…Continue Reading

I’m Listening

Tall-tale-telling imp in the making.   My dad is a master storyteller who always gets the punchline or dramatic pause just right. My siblings and I spent many nights perched on the side of our beds listening wide-eyed and rapt to tales of my dad’s haunted childhood or how his grandpa went into a…Continue Reading

Dream Police

There’s just no way I can’t post this next thing. A friend of mine sent it to me the other morning and I asked if I could publish it here, but he didn’t respond quickly enough, so I sure hope he doesn’t mind. That could be a real awkward trademark issue. Also, it’s sticky that…Continue Reading

Keep it Real

I know this person. At one time, I thought we could be friends. She was funny, and smart, and well-read. When I saw her, she would gush things like, “Hi lovey! How are you? What’s going on? Sooooo good to see you!” as if she thought I was awesome, but before I could respond to…Continue Reading

10 Signs You’re Approaching Menopause

1. Your boobs are 34C, your hips are 3.14 Pi.   2. Your upper lip is a Chia Pet.   3. Alaska hires your body to melt snow.   4. You affectionately refer to your vaginal canal as “The Road to Ishtar.”   5. The fluid retained by your stomach could solve California’s water crisis.…Continue Reading

From Whence I Came Again

It’s Day Two of the SITSGirls’ “Back to Blogging” event and today’s challenge is to re-post something you wish more people had paid attention to at the time.   I’m not sure I think of this as a piece I wish other people paid more attention to, as it is a post I keep coming…Continue Reading

5 Things I Want My Children To Know & Believe, Part Deux

The other day, I received an email from someone who told me they enjoyed reading the post I’m about to re-publish here. In truth, I’d completely forgotten about it, but think now would be a perfect time to revisit it seeing as I need a parenting status check. I’ve been — um — challenged by…Continue Reading

Stuff I Like: Looking Younger and Generally More Awesome

I’ve lately come across some surprisingly effective and cool products, which got me thinking it’s been awhile since my ever-popular (I use the term loosely) “Stuff I Like” posts. First of all, let me say that I am very into discovering the newest Holy Grail beauty product, and as such, my bathroom drawer is full…Continue Reading

Funnest birthday/holiday celebration yesterday! Vi Funnest birthday/holiday celebration yesterday! Visited Del Mar’s shops, businesses, restaurants and bars for the Village’s annual Taste and Sip with closest pals. Highlights: learning about Mezcal at @enfuegocantina, sampling new @lalospirits tequila, catching the sunset at @monarchdelmar, amazing ceviche at @coya_peruvian_secret, and the most delicious gluten-free birthday cake from @shanjo! Recommend this for next year - was the best best most good time.
