I miss my best friend who died exactly a year ago from this coming Friday of pancreatic cancer. He was 39 years old. Our relationship was like a marriage without the sex and arguments. We just “got” each other. We worked all day in an office and then spent hours afterwards, laughing and talking. Even after both of us got married, we could pick up the phone and pick up the conversation where we left off. I am thankful that I got to experience this unusual male-female friendship; my life is so much richer because of it. But there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t miss him and am grieving his death. I’m not naive enough to think that kind of friendship will ever happen again – it truly was a once in a lifetime experience.

Whispered giggles with girlfriends before he arrives. Flirting. Anticipation. Stomach flip-flopping. Furtive glances. Less than graceful head tilting. Bumped noses. Soft lips. Warm mouth. I miss first kisses.

Once again, I submit some prior posts (2 parts, and a sort of epilogue) because I think they more than fit the bill. If the trackbacks to those posts don’t come through, do a search on my blog for “The Price of Friendship” and “Homage”.
