When is the first (or last) time you felt like a square peg in a round hole?

Oddly enough, this phrase is in the last post I read in my reader, too. I haven’t got an answer, but I’ll definitely think about it.

The last time? So many times I’m not sure. The most obvious times were at awkward dinner parties where there were too many quiet types, meaning you have to “be the show” or join the show and shut up.

This is an old prompt my friend Kate responded to yesterday in her blog. And it’s awesome.

One time I went out to a bar with friends and everyone was drinking except me. Oh wait, that’s never happened. Hmmm, I need to think about this one—Oh, I got it. When I went to a “pool party” at a friend of my sister-in-laws and it looked like a party at Heff’s mansion. Seriously, thong bikinis, high heels, perfectly molded people everywhere, the whole nine yards (so to speak). I was still in mom jeans and wanted to kill myself. Not. Fun.

Every goddamn afternoon at school pick-up.

Next semester will be worse — my son will be starting kinder, which is only 1/2 day here. Which means I get to go TWICE each day.

    I may need drugs.
