Sharing some humor, a bit of writing and way too much information

It Had To Be Done (In Spite of the Zits)

Etcetera

Do you know that Mom’s Nite Out thing I’ve been talking about all over the place? Well, because It’s something close to my heart, so I’ve made you the below video to explain why it means so much to me.

And because I feel SO strongly about the healing nature of girl time, I made this video despite my not having taken a shower in two days, not covering up my zits, nor showing the least bit of concern for the skin tag over my left eyebrow.

Because you mean that much to me. Although you may question that soon.

In addition, please note that unless you are a woman, live in San Diego, and enjoy watching people bob their heads up and down repeatedly while saying “um,” viewing this video will be no fun for you. (I cannot begin to tell you how nervous I was making it. I’m clasping my hands together tightly just out of the screen shot and telling myself to stop fidgeting so much in my head.)

So with that glowing intro: Enjoy this Vee-Log!

Oh! And it’s almost 12 minutes long.

So you can just go without viewing it.

I will understand.

(Was it the zit talk?)

    Dude (Dudette?):

I couldn’t find the zit! I kept looking. I was all focused on the zit-finding project. What did you say in the VLOG?

Seriously? Good job. You are a good talker. Also? You always have on just the right outfit and shoes. Shut up!

Note to possible attendees: You should totally go to events with Deb. My wife and I? We went to an event with Deb. And? My wife? WON $500 in prizes. (Yes, she did.)

Excellent job, Deb. Lovely talk about women, connecting, friendship, personal relationships, community.

You had me at calamari strips.

You worry too much – you look great, you spoke well, what are you worried about?

You are frickin adorable! I wish I lived in San Diego. You girls are going to have so much fun! I didn’t see the zit either.

I watched every single second of your VEE-LOG. I smiled and nodded. I hope you have a HUGE turn-out and every woman there meets a new friend or ten!

I agree with Chris, very adorable. And I’m so with you on the writing the letter to my wife vs talking it out. After we do talk, i always think of ways i could have said it “better”.
    The meetup sounds great fun.!

If that’s you after two days without showering and being all zitty and shit, I really must curse you.

By the way, there’s no lisp and your lips are fine.

Now shut up and talk about MNO.

You are adorable, and if I can dump this house in Iowa on some unsuspecting buyer and get settled in San Diego in the next three day (I’ll need a day to get regrouped), I’ll be there!

(oh, how I wish I could be…have fun!)

I would SO be there if I could. I hope your night is wildly successful and you get to connect with people as wonderful as you are. BTW, people pay good money for lips like yours. :)

Hey Deb~I’ve been trying to organize something like the same over on the East Coast.
Can you tell me how you got the donations started for the swag bags? I think that would be a huge selling point for some of the moms here to come out.
    Thanks!

The zits are there I’m telling you! But somehow the lighting erased them. Thank God.

And yes Kate! Nail clippers! Perfect.

Debrah…as for swag…we (and we had the help of a wonderful PR person too who has been great…Charity at Virtue IMC)…told companies that we were gathering a large group of women together for a Mom’s Night Out and that we were looking for products and services for the swag bag. Many, many companies — once they heard that there were going to be a lot of their demographic in the same room — offered to stock the swag bags. Also, it didn’t hurt that some of us have blogs and are on Facebook and Twitter and could publicly thank the sponsors.

    Hope you ladies have fun!

Oh…and by the way, could you please let me know how you got your video loaded on to the computer? This has been the bane of my existence for like a year…and I’m supposed to be a “techy” and crap.

    Hi Crystal!

I used the Flip vid camera to record, then when done, I plugged it into my computer (the Flip comes with a connected USB) and downloaded the .avi “movie” file to my desktop. Then, I went to Vimeo.com (you can also go to YouTube…but they have file size restrictions) and uploaded the file there.

Once uploaded, they give you instructions for how to embed the vid to your site!

Let me know if you have questions!

You keep telling me about these fictional zits. There are no zits there. Again! I watched the whole thing. Oh yes I did :).

    Publicly thank sponsors. Will do.

    See you on Thursday night.

I was on the fence a little (because babysitter and school night and work and stuff) but now I am going to do my best to be there! If babysitter will call me back (arrgh) I will be there to help sew quilts or pop pretend zits or eat calamari, take shoe pictures or whatever the night calls for. I am good at dancing on tables….

    You’re awesome. Really awesome.

Well said and well done!! Indead it was that, although there were still alot of people on their keyboards. Curse those Blackberries!

Still the sense of community was great, I was honored to meet you in person, and I got to spend quality time with my neighbor who is also my son’s best friend’s mom on the way down. We did some intense MIL debriefing which was very valuable to me!

Anyway, look forward to hanging out with you in real life soon. You are just so good at saying what I’m thinking.
