San Diego Momma

Sharing some humor, a bit of writing and way too much information

Meme: “You Had Me At…”

Etcetera

This meme comes direct from Matter of Fact Mommy, who made it up herself, and since I think it’s genius, I’m jumping on the bandwagon.

So straight from Matter of Fact’s mouth, here is the meme:

“I want to hear which specific post got you hooked on the blogs that you read regularly. You only have to choose 5 blogs. This way, you won’t feel bad for leaving anyone out. And it can be 5 RANDOM blogs. You don’t have to claim these 5 blogs as your 5 FAVORITE blogs. Get what I’m getting at? Good.”

So I’m going to go ahead and list five of the posts on blogs that grabbed my attention and garnered my fandom. (In no particular order)

Slouching Mom is the most beautiful writer. She’s got a lyrical sensibility to her posts that usually takes my breath away each time I read. I favorited her blog many moons ago, and this was one of the posts that hooked me. She takes random, everyday moments and expands them into something meaningful and that’s a rare talent.

Mommypie is a treasured virtual friend, whose blog I visit daily. She’s got grit, you can tell that right away, but also, there’s a real kindness shining through her posts, which makes you think she’d be a good friend in real life too. Plus, her Photoshop skills are truly inventive and hilarious (which didn’t really make sense, did it?), but go to MommyPie and you’ll see what I mean. This post had me at the first two sentences, because it was so relatable. This one cemented my blog loyalty. Because it confirmed that we were twins separated at birth.

I learned about Pajama Momma from MommyPie and I’m glad I did. And the very first post I read was this one and then that was it. I love fart stories. Also, poo stories. And stuff about pus. I don’t know why. I’ve investigated the pathology of these obsessions and I have not turned anything farty, poopy or pus-sy up in my past that would explain it. That aside, Pajama Momma is funny, and smart and a whole bunch of other things wrapped up in a wisecracking package. And also there’s this. She had me at the farts, then she went all introspecty on me and I loved that too.

Steph at the Stephford Diaries is real and authentic and smart and funny and I loover her. She vlogs too, which is the super coolest. Also, she turned me more onto positive discipline than I’d been before (which is to say, I had the books, but didn’t really read them), and she’s open and non-judgmental. This post was the first I read by her and it sealed the deal on my loving her forever and ever, amen.

I discovered Cheri at Blog This Mom! when she NaBloPoMo’d the month of March. Every day, I’d tune in and read her lists and then swoon. She’s an incredibly gifted writer and her dry humor gets me every time. This post had me instantly and then we totally (the post and I) did it and I’ve been calling it ever since.

And as for the meme instigator herself, Matter of Fact Mommy, I’ve reserved a special place. I don’t even know how I happened upon her blog, but I’m glad I did. If you want a salty dose of reality and to hear how someone really thinks, go here. She calls them as she sees them and that’s one of my favorite qualities in a person. Authenticity gets me every time.
The first post (really a picture) I read by her was this and then when I went back in the archives and read this, forget about it.

And there’s so many other blog posts and bloggers who’ve snagged me on their fish hooks (The Mom Crowd, So anyway, We Make Three, and more, more, more). But I’ll do my “I love you” post another day.

Mainly because as I post this, I’m sitting in near-darkness, ignoring my family, eating three bowls of rice (thanks PJ Momma!) cream and further compressing my vertebra as I hunch over the keyboard.

Please continue this meme amongst yourselves!

I’d have to go back six years for most of my favorite reads. Six years. That’s a lot of blog reading.

I think I’ll go hide under a rock and contemplate for a while.
