I Can Always Get a New Face, Right? (UPDATED)

Today I’m having my face burned off.   I’ve often heard that when you’re 40, you must decide between your face or your ass. So I’ve decided to take the face out of the equation to give my ass a fighting chance.   I’ll post the before picture this afternoon.   p.s. Although I probably…Continue Reading

Character Sketch (Aka a Real Post is Coming Soon)

I did this one awhile ago…   First, she introduced us to the man on her porch. Resembling an Orthodox Jew with his black hat, and beard — also black — he shuffled away in knee-high sports socks and Adidas gym shoes. Next, she welcomed us into her faded apartment. Two fat cats scurried out…Continue Reading

Moonglows and Fairy Drops

“The universe is full of magical things, patiently waiting for our wits to grow sharper.” –Eden Phillpotts   *************************************************************************************   “Mommy, is Peter Pan real?”   Toots asks me a question like that every day. And used to be, I floundered with my answer. Of course, I want to tell her “yes,” unequivocally, indubably, resoundingly…Continue Reading

PROMPTuesday #21: Tell Us A Story

He’d fallen asleep at the wheel. Must’ve been just a second or two, because his truck never strayed from its straight course. Then again, since he crossed into Wyoming’s Great Plains, he’d been going straight. He shrugged his shoulders, squinted at the road, and stuck his left ear out the window as far as it’d…Continue Reading

Carry On

My apologies. I’ve been out to lunch. I haven’t commented, twitted, read, socialized, met up, schemeezled or schemozled for days going on days. Can I just say? So. Much. Work. My fingers have been glued to this keyboard — and not in the good way — for weeks now.   Thanks for still coming by…Continue Reading

The Tapas Post

I have an eccentric friend. You know the ones? They’re so delightfully weird, that you just could listen to them for hours. I haven’t talked to my friend for awhile now, we’ve been so busy, we live 150 miles from each other, and general life gets in the way.   We spoke for the…Continue Reading

PROMPTuesday #20: Memory Description

Today marks back-to-school time, and when I was a kid, I loved this time of year. It’s why I adore autumn. All summer, I anticipated the week before school, when I’d hurry out to buy my school supplies, stick pennies in my loafers, and carefully cover my textbooks.   But I was a geek.  …Continue Reading

A Singular Sensation

In my other life, I was a Broadway star. And I’m pretty sure I loved it. Maybe I met my end when an overzealous Charleston kick took me off stage into the orchestra pit. Or perhaps an ill-mounted light fell on my head. Either way, I didn’t get off that stage willingly. In fact, I…Continue Reading

Here He Is

Yeah, I know. Obvious much? If the dismembered female didn’t tip me off to the crazy, the overalls should have done the trick. Plus, the eyes. Maniacal right?   Man, looking at this picture now, I feel like the stupidest tool in the shed.   Anyway, I don’t want to post his name. I’d…Continue Reading

It Never Quite Goes Away, Pt. 5

Part 1 Here. Part 2 Here. Part 3 Here. Part 4 Here.     “A man and a woman, they asked me what happened, surveyed the destroyed door, and wrote on their pads of paper. There wasn’t any sympathy, which I didn’t expect, but found curious. I hoped that this latest incident would put my…Continue Reading

It Never Quite Goes Away, Pt. 4

Note: I’m unbelievably busy these days, and I apologize for not reading your blogs, responding to comments, answering questions, and just generally being incognito. I write/edit for a living, and have the most laughable backlog of work this month that it’s completely ridiculous. And the work just keeps coming. So while that’s good for my…Continue Reading

My Mind is a Bullet Train

I kicked off this morning with the persistent words “A Book, A Thought, A Candle,” blazing in my mind. And since I don’t often get omens or messages from above, I thought this is one I should heed. So I’m going to give my addled brain what it wants.   Let’s start with the book.…Continue Reading
